FloodPro Scotland — Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026
Clearwater Software Limited ("we", "us", "our") operates the FloodPro Scotland mobile application (the "App"). This policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and your rights in relation to it.
1. Who we are
Clearwater Software Limited is the data controller for the App. If you have any questions about this policy or how your data is handled, please contact us at support@clearwatersoftware.co.uk.
2. What information we collect
Location data If you grant permission, the App accesses your device's location solely to centre the map view on your current position and to show nearby river stations and flood warning areas. Location data is processed on-device only. We do not transmit, store, or share your location with any server or third party.
No account or personal data The App does not require you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address, or any other personal information.
Device notification token If you subscribe to flood warning alerts, a device-specific push notification token is sent to our secure cloud infrastructure. This token is a technical identifier for your device — it cannot be used to identify you personally. It is stored solely for the purpose of delivering the alerts you have requested, and is deleted when you unsubscribe.
Locally stored preferences The App stores your chosen favourite stations and notification subscriptions on your device using standard iOS storage. This data never leaves your device except as described above (notification tokens).
3. How we use your information
We use the information described above only to provide the core features of the App — specifically, displaying flood and river data relevant to your location, and delivering push notifications for warning areas you have subscribed to. We do not use your information for marketing, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the App.
4. Sharing your information
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties, except:
AWS (Amazon Web Services) — our cloud infrastructure provider, used solely to route push notifications to your device. AWS processes data on our behalf under appropriate data processing agreements.
SEPA (Scottish Environment Protection Agency) — the App fetches publicly available flood warning and river monitoring data from SEPA's API. No personal data is sent to SEPA.
Legal obligation — we may disclose information if required to do so by law.
5. Future changes
In a future release, we may introduce optional, fully anonymous analytics — for example, understanding which river stations are most commonly saved as favourites — to help us improve the App. If we do so, this policy will be updated before that feature is released, and any such data will contain nothing that could identify you personally.
6. Data retention
Push notification tokens are retained only for as long as you maintain an active subscription to a warning area. On unsubscription, the token association for that area is removed. Locally stored preferences remain on your device and can be cleared by deleting the App.
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you. Given the limited data described above, the most straightforward way to remove all data is to unsubscribe from all alerts and delete the App. You may also contact us at support@clearwatersoftware.co.uk with any request.
8. Children
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be available at https://clearwatersoftware.co.uk/floodpro-scotland-privacy-policy and the "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes.
